I have interpreted the About Time theme for the Met Gala through a political/social lens, specifically around women's rights. Given the Supreme Court has overturned Roe v Wade, I was inspired by the feminist movement in the United States (Gloria Steinem) and how currently, women's rights are still being questioned.

My research of Alicia's style, acting career, and personality influenced the moodboard I created for her. I love the idea of overlaying the text of 'My Body My Choice' on the train or skirt of a dress so that it resembles a print. The metallic (gold) color of the dress was chosen because it signals strength, boldness, and almost an armor-like feeling. Similarly, dark makeup and a strong up do also signal strength, chicness, and a silent confidence in oneself. Alicia is a powerful actress because she makes a scene and story look easy and believable. The idea for her look is not supposed to be 'in your face' to deliver your message, but just as powerful. The shoes, carry the neutraal metallic coloring of the dress.
